This course offers a balanced overview of transformative and mind-body practices which may be useful to people as they traverse the difficult terrain of cancer diagnosis and treatment. It explores areas which may be out of your awareness as you consider making recommendations in this area. It includes how to assess and support the coping skills that are useful to many cancer patients. Completion of the course can help you understand and engage in the transformative mind/body practices focused on life transformation. There are guidelines so that you can also try some of the practices, as well as assessing the benefit for your patients.
Course Syllabus
Objectives:
- Explore your views on the causes of cancer and be able to identify how this impacts your recommendations of transformative practices to patients.
- Understand how individuals may react to illness based on personality factors and identify coping skills that can serve cancer patients in all phases of illness.
- Learn strategies for organizing your understanding of the patient's experience, and be able to name and define three helpful landmarks.
- Understand the basis for integrative support and identify the key reasons to encourage lifestyle changes and stress management practices.
- Gain overview of and familiarity with transformative and mind-body practices, and be able to identify and list a range of practices.
